Bihar currently has 50 industrial areas and mega industrial parks. The state has identified Agriculture, IT, electronics, textiles and leather as it high priority sectors. Other manufacturing sectors, power – thermal and renewable, hospitality, communications and aquaculture are some of the fast-growing sectors in the state. India’s first electric locomotive manufacturing facility, opened as a JV between Alstom and the Indian Railways, launched its first electric locomotive engine in March 2018.Having Total US$ 3.41bn investment opportunity with 127 projects within the 30 districts across Bihar.

  • Total Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for Bihar and Jharkhand stood at US$ 119 million between April 2000 and March 2020.
  • In 2019, eight investments were filed in the state and the amount of investment proposed was Rs 671 crore (US$ 96.01 million).
  • With 84.22 million mobile subscribers in January 2020, Bihar** accounted for the third largest mobile subscriber base among all Indian states.
  • Total merchandise export from the state stood at US$ 1,640.33 million during 2018-19. During 2019-20 (up to December 2019), export reached US$ 1,260.15 million.
  • As of March 2020, Bihar had a total installed power generation capacity of 5,791.86 MW, of which 4,748.39 MW was contributed by central utilities, 70.70 MW by state utilities, and 972.77 MW by private utilities.
  • During sugar season 2019-20, 11 sugar mills were operating in the state of Bihar. During 2019-20, 220.50 lakh MT sugar is estimated to be produced in Bihar.
  • In 2019, foreign tourist arrival reached 1.093 million, whereas, and domestic tourist arrival stood at 33.99 million.
